God Speaks

Location Reveal

A few days ago, I sat in class and heard teaching on how to hear the voice of God and how to recognize God’s voice. I love lessons like these because it allows you to check your understanding, and make sure you can decipher what’s God’s voice, and what’s your own. After the lesson, they showed us a video, and it was the outreach location reveal! They had so many amazing countries listed and then they gave us 24 hours to choose our top three.

Before this day, I was feeling super apart from God, discouraged, and hadn’t really felt in His presence. And now I have to figure out where God wants me to go. I put myself under a lot of pressure and continued to get discouraged.

After hours of sitting, talking to my roommates, and time praying in the prayer room… still nothing. Radio silence. I was so angry and confused why I was having such a hard time hearing from the Lord because it’s not something I usually struggle with. I finally just got up and went out to a local shopping center with my friends.

While walking, I still felt frustrated and trying to hear from the Lord. So I turned to my friends and said I’m just gonna ask a stranger where I should go. I look around and see a guy sitting in a red shirt. I walk right up to him and say, “Hey super random, but can you just name a region, or continent? It can be anywhere, just the first one that pops into your head.” The guy and his friend sat there for a minute confused why some random girl was talking to them and they finally spit out “Asia”.

Just Wreck Me

After not getting the answer I wanted, I tried to ignore it and say, oh, that wasn’t God. So I go down the street and just sit on a rock and look at the waves crashing into the rocks. I sit there and ask God, “Give me something. Show me a color or have someone tell me. And God, when I know it, I pray you let me know. Just wreck me wherever I am.”

After the prayer, I get up and my friends and I carry on with our night. We are watching volleyball, talking to people that we go to school with, and then we walk to a convenient store. (It’s called the ABC store, and I highly recommend)

As we are walking, I just start to notice all the colors around me and suddenly all the street lights turn on in an instant. Here in Kona, all of the street lights are orange. I just thought to myself, wow, that’s weird. We keep going and we walk through the store and there is orange everywhere! I kept trying to deny it or think about why orange is sticking out to me so much.

Gelato

We leave the store and I see a sign for gelato and I get a picture of a young girl serving the gelato. I’m like her. She’s who I’m going to ask to reveal where I should go for outreach. I’m waiting for the gelato, asking my friends why orange would be significant and one mentions flags and that the Indian flag has orange on it. I’m like India? Why would I ever go to India?

We go into the Gelato shop and I ask the two ladies the same question I asked the first guy on the street, “Off the top of your head, can you name any continent or region?” The first woman spits out quickly, “Asia?”

And my heart drops. Then the next young girl working says, “India”. As soon as the word left her mouth, I began to weep. In the middle of the gelato shop, I am sobbing and the Lord wrecked me and told me to put India as my first option for outreach.

We had to put three options down, but unfortunately I can’t share the other two due to the safety of our contacts in those countries. I am so thankful that I finally heard God’s voice again, and that He spoke to me so clearly.

There are many ways to support me on this journey, including financial support (I still need a little more) and your prayers.
